
On April 3, 2025 at approximately 1:17 p.m. Darke County Deputies along with New Madison Fire, Tri-Village and Greenville Township Rescue responded to the intersection of U.S. 127 and U.S. 36 West for a two-vehicle injury crash.
Preliminary investigation revealed a black Chevy Suburban, driven by Amber Castle 26, of Palestine was traveling eastbound on U.S. 36 and stopped at the intersection of U.S. 127. Also inside this vehicle was her front seat passenger and a 15-month-old baby. Castle then entered the intersection attempting to travel north on U.S. 127 and was struck by a southbound white Honda Civic, driven by Jane Smith 78, of West Manchester. Jane and her front seat passenger Byron Smith 81, were both transported to WayneHealth for minor injuries and Castle was also transported to WayneHealth for a possible minor injury. The baby and front seat passenger of the Suburban were uninjured.
