In early January of this year, Jon Baker, Kameron Stikeleather, and Phillip Rehmert, three trucker friends conceived an idea: organizing a truck show with all proceeds benefiting a charitable cause. What started as a casual discussion quickly gained momentum, and by the end of February, they were ready to start the planning and on June 29 their dream materialized into the “Run of the Mill Truck Show.”
From Vision to Reality
Organizing an event of this scale required meticulous planning and collaboration. The trio faced numerous logistical challenges, especially concerning finances. Expenses such as venue rental, event insurance, advertising, hiring a DJ, and printing T-shirts added up significantly. To overcome these hurdles, Jon, Kameron, and Phillip rallied local support. Families and businesses from their community generously contributed as sponsors, offering amounts ranging from $100 to $2000. Sponsors of this first annual Run of the mill truck show were: Bussy Bros Auctioneers, Rehmert Fabrication, Leis Farms, Waymarker Trucking, Barga Family, Garber Painting, Team Beast, Sease Trucking, Sharps Tavern, Greenville National Bank, Erisman Excavating, Drew Ag Farms, Empire Pork, Royer Lawncare & Landscaping, Rowland Truck & Equipment, Becks Aaron Overholser, Mikesell Concrete, Drew Ag Transport, Wintrow Signs. Jon, Kameron and Phillip want to thank them for their support!
Setting the Stage
Choosing the right venue was crucial. The southern end of the Darke County Fairgrounds provided the perfect backdrop, thanks to the accommodating support of the Darke County Fair Board. Securing the location involved negotiating leases and coordinating with vendors, including arranging for food trucks to enhance the event’s atmosphere.
Rain or Shine, the Show Goes On
Despite the tight timeline and the rain for a few hours at the day of the event, the inaugural “Run of the Mill Truck Show” exceeded expectations. A total of 67 trucks, some traveling from as far as Canada, gathered at the Fairgrounds. These weren’t just ordinary trucks; many bore the mark of its owner’s dedication, showcasing elaborate customizations both inside and out.
Celebrating Community and Excellence
No truck show is complete without crowning a winner, and this event was no exception. In a heartwarming twist, the judges were none other than children, whose enthusiasm for trucks is boundless. Dakota Finkbine’s vibrant yellow truck captured their imaginations and won their vote, earning the coveted title of the first annual Truck Show champion. Dakota’s pride and joy will adorn next year’s official T-shirt, a testament to his craftsmanship and the community’s admiration.
A Legacy of Giving Back
The success of the “Run of the Mill Truck Show” wasn’t just measured by the impressive turnout or the dazzling array of trucks on display. Thanks to the dedication of Jon, Kameron, Phillip, and the unwavering support of sponsors and attendees, the event generated a substantial amount of $5487, which will be donated to Dayton Children’s, a cause close to the hearts of everyone involved.
Looking to the Future
As the inaugural event drew to a close, anticipation for next year’s Truck Show was palpable. Jon, Kameron, and Phillip reflected on their journey—from a simple idea to a community-wide celebration of trucks, craftsmanship, and generosity. With lessons learned and spirits high, they are already planning for an even bigger and better event next year, eager to build upon their success and continue making a positive impact.
The “Run of the Mill Truck Show” stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when friends come together with a shared vision and a commitment to their community. As they eagerly await next year’s festivities, one thing is certain: the legacy of this inaugural event will endure, fueled by passion, dedication, and a love for trucks that knows no bounds.
