GREENVILLE – The month of April is chock full of fun, free programming at Greenville Public Library!

Thrive From the Ground Up with Superfood Nutrition

Ever wonder what superfoods could do for you? Join us on Thursday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m. to find out! Amber Schmerge will be presenting, Thrive from the Ground Up with Superfood Nutrition. She’ll be covering the soil-body connection, the benefits of regenerative farming, and much more! Those in attendance will get to sample some superfoods as well as connect with a like-minded community.

Black Out Poetry

Black Out Poetry will take place on Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m. Join us as we use book pages and markers to create poems by marking out the unwanted words, leaving behind a unique masterpiece! All materials will be provided for this free event.

Classic Movie Matinee

Join us on Thursday, April 17 at 1 p.m. for this month’s Movie Matinee showing of The Maltese Falcon. This 1941 film starring Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor is based on the 1930 Dashiell Hammett novel of the same title. The run time is 1 hour 41 minutes. Bring your favorite movie snacks and drinks to this free event! Patrons who are easily chilled are also encouraged to bring a sweater.

Bring Your Own Book Club

Ever wanted to join a book club, but just aren’t into being told what to read and when? Then GPL’s new Bring Your Own Book Club is perfect for you! Our first meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 17. There’s no required reading, just that you’ve read a book. Any book! Bring along whatever you’re into at the moment, or something that you’ve read recently and get ready to share your opinion. All genres are welcome to be discussed in this book club! Outside snacks and drinks are welcome, but no alcohol please! BYO Book Club is open to ages 14 and up, but we ask that all minors be accompanied by a parent or are picked up promptly at 6:30.

Crochet Club

On the fourth Tuesday of each month, we are now hosting Crochet Club! Open to all skill levels, Crochet Club is a great place to make new friends while making progress on the crochet project you’ve been slaving away at. April’s meeting will be on Tuesday the 22nd from noon to 1 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring their lunch along as well. Beginners to crochet are also welcome to come and learn the basics in a welcoming atmosphere. Yarn and hooks will be provided for those still in the learning process.

Pocket Poems

These free poems can be found on the first floor across from the Circulation Desk in celebration of National Poetry Month. Rolled up as a convenient scroll, each poem is a mystery, with a variety of authors and styles available for adults and kids from April 1st through 30th.

Voice In Verse Poetry Contest

Beginning April 1, GPL will be hosting our first annual poetry contest! Open to all ages, this competition will allow you to flex your creative muscle and show off your rhythm and flow. All forms of poetry are welcome. All entries must be received no later than Wednesday, April 30. There is a limit of one submission per person, so be sure to give us your best! Submissions can be dropped off at the library or emailed to gplstaff3915@gmail.com with the subject line, ‘2025 Poetry Contest.’
