Upper Valley Medical Center Parkinson’s Wellness Program offers Additional Location

TROY, Ohio – A Parkinson’s Wellness Program (formerly Delay the Disease) centered around those diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease will be hosted by Upper Valley Medical Center from April 8, 2025 through June 26, 2025. Classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm in the UVMC Physician Office Building Lower Level Conference Rooms, 3130 N. County Road 25A. Classes are also offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm and 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm at the Miami County YMCA Robinson Branch, 3060 S. Co Rd 25A in Troy. Due to continued growing enrollment in the program, classes will also be offered in 2025 at the Miami County YMCA UVMC/Premier Health Branch, 230 High St in Piqua on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. New participants will be assigned a time slot based on their pre-assessment with a physical therapist.

The Parkinson’s Wellness Program is designed to empower those living with Parkinson’s Disease by improving their physical function and helping to delay symptom progression. The 24 sessions, which are taught by physical therapists and certified athletic trainers who specialize in the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease, consist of mobility, balance, and strengthening exercises that retrain the mind and body.

Exercise plans are modified to all levels of the disease and are valuable from diagnosis through all stages of progression. Prior to beginning the class, physical therapists will assess each participant’s strength, walking/gait speed, and balance to obtain a baseline.

The regular registration fee is $240 which includes a pre-assessment and 24 classes. A special price of $120 is being offered due to the generosity of the Tim Drake Family Fund. Registration for Tipp City residents has been paid in full by the Tim Drake Family Fund.
