Finally! After many years, Wayne Theatre opened its doors again. The Jones family did an incredible job in bringing this theatre back to life! Actually they didn’t just bring it back to life, they created an amazing entertainment location, basically from scratch. Other than the brick walls of the building, almost everything is new.
A big crowd showed up for this day, the community had to wait for such a long time. There was a lot of back and forth and a lot of people were involved over the past decade, but then the Jones family took this journey of re-opening the Wayne theatre into their hands about 2 years ago. And they put a lot into this project to make it what it is today!
Rachel Neal, President of Darke County Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the crowd: “this crowd speaks volumes for what this theatre means for Greenville and Darke County. I think its a really important project for Greenville and Darke County. Greenville is already a destination and this is a special place to come, a beautiful location.”
Mike Jones shared some stories of the beginnings when they came in about 2 years ago, the fact that they practically had to gut out the whole building. He thanked everyone who supported the Jones family in process of revive the Wayne theatre.
“It’s a labor of love”, Mike said “we wanted to give the community the opportunity to have a theatre. We wanted to make sure that everything was top quality and top of the line.”
Mayor Willman surprised the Jones family with a sign “Mike and Sherri Jones Way”. “The one block downtown will not just be West Fifths Street, it is going to be Mike and Sherri Jones Way”.
In this new entertainment location we might in the future be able to see more activities than just watching movies. Remember: it’s not just a “Cinema”, it’s a “Theatre” … so, let’s see what the Jones family has in store for the community…
