Whirlpool is supporting Darke County United Way since many years and in 2024 the company and its employees set a new record with more than $511,000, a $53,000 increase over last year’s already impressive $458,000. With that, Whirlpool’s Greenville Operations has donated over $400,000 to the Darke County United Way for the third year in a row.
Employees have several ways to contribute to the cause, including payroll deductions and participating in various fundraising events throughout the year.
“Thanks to the tremendous support from our hourly workers, we raised over $255,000 last year for local charities, which was then matched by the Whirlpool Foundation,” said Chris Abyad, the lead at Whirlpool’s Greenville Plant.
This year’s donation is benefiting around 20 different charities within Darke County. “Essentially, what happens is United Way gets the money, and then we do due diligence on different charitable entities, and then we allocate that money, and it’s something we take really serious,” explained Chance Cox, a board member of the Darke County United Way.
The funds will be used to meet a wide range of community needs, with significant contributions to alternative education, food pantries, and homeless shelters.
The company has other projects and fundraisers planned for later this year to continue supporting United Way initiatives in Darke County.
