Wilda (Phipps) Martindale

April 30, 1941 ~ November 3, 2024

Wilda (Phipps) Martindale of Greenville, Ohio, entered the presence of her Savior on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

Wilda grew up in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, as the eldest child of Willard and Alice Phipps. Growing up on a farm, she tended to find chores inside the home or spent her time annoying her two brothers, Gary and David.

Wilda graduated from Newton Local School in 1959 and then worked at Berry School of Horsemanship. She married Robert (Bob) Martindale on October 1, 1960.

Wilda and Bob moved to Gettysburg, Ohio where they raised their family. Wilda worked at several locations during her career including Argosy of Versailles and Wayne Industries.

As a couple, they were actively involved as youth group leaders and in children’s ministries at Pleasant View Missionary Church. Wilda had a passion for children and teens. Her sincere desire to build lasting relationships with each child or teen was evident. She cared about their activities and hobbies, as well as their relationship to Jesus. Relationships built turned into friendships that lasted beyond childhood. She was the honorary mom or grandmother to many.

Wilda enjoyed reading, baking, family vacation time, and Bible studies. She was involved in many Women’s Bible studies and later in life with Bible Study Fellowship. She had long-lasting friendships with whom she shared the joys and laughter of life as well as the tears and burdens of their families. At her core, Wilda adored her family and would do anything to support the interests and activities of her children, Christine, Beth, and Michael.  She was the chauffeur and cheerleader at countless music lessons, track meets, and choir concerts. As her children grew into adults, the relationships changed from mom/child to close friends. The support, encouragement, and prayers for her children never ceased. Wilda was so excited to have grandchildren, Faith, Hope, and Grace; and then this past year to have a great-grandson, Henry.  He was such a joy to her during the difficult months of pain.

Wilda will be missed and remembered by her family – husband, Bob Martindale, and children Christine (Dan) Null of Lindenhurst, IL, and Michael Martindale of Greenville; her grandchildren Faith (Gabe) Cottrell of West Milton, Hope Jackson of West Milton, and Grace Null of Lindenhurst, IL; great-grandson Henry Cottrell; brother Gary (June) Phipps of Washington Court House; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Beth Jackson; brother David Phipps.

The family will receive friends starting at 10:30 am on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Pleasant View Missionary Church, 5231 Gettysburg-Pitsburg Road, Greenville, OH 45331. A celebration of Wilda’s life will follow at 12:00. Private interment will be held in Oakland Cemetery, Bradford.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to GIVE Medical Ministries, EverHeart Hospice, or Pleasant View Missionary Church.  Online memories of Wilda may be left for the family at www.hale-saver.com.
