The Anna Bier Gallery is proud to announce the opening of Shaped by Environment, a solo art exhibition by local artist and educator Scott Thayer. The show will be on display beginning October 10, 2025, and will run through October 31, 2025.
A public reception celebrating the artist will be held on Saturday, October 11, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Guests are invited to meet Thayer and explore the exhibition. Admission to the gallery and reception is free. Immediately following the reception, Darke County Center for the Arts will welcome Water Street Dance Milwaukee to the stage. The art exhibit will be open during the intermission and following this show. Tickets must be purchased to attend the Water Street Dance Milwaukee performance.
Shaped by Environment brings together an eclectic mix of ceramics, paintings, photographs, and illuminated sculptures. Thayer’s work reflects the diverse influences of the natural and personal environments that shape his artistic process. Living above Greenville Creek provides both visual inspiration and natural materials, such as driftwood that makes its way into his sculptures. His role as a high school art teacher at Franklin Monroe fuels his creative output, as he develops daily examples to inspire students and spark new ideas of his own. Additionally, his family’s lake house in Michigan offers endless artistic influence, from glowing sunsets to abstract reflections across the water.
“Each piece in this exhibit is a direct response to the environments that surround me,” Thayer explains. “Whether it’s the driftwood carried by Greenville Creek or the ever-changing light over a Michigan lake, I find myself constantly challenged and inspired by the places I live and work.”
Shaped by Environment will be on view Fridays from October 10 through October 31, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Anna Bier Gallery is located on the second floor of St. Clair Memorial Hall, 215 E 4th Street, Greenville, OH.
The Anna Bier Gallery exhibits diverse artists to enrich Darke County and surrounding areas through the visual arts. Exhibit dates coordinate with Artist Series shows and Special Events at Memorial Hall.
