January 22, 1951 ~ July 3, 2026
HANES, Chris Howard, age 75 was born January 22, 1951, went home to be with the Lord July 3, 2026, in Olympia, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard & Carolyn (Brown) Hanes Arcanum, Ohio. He is survived by his wife Rachel (Rahmel-Holgate, Ohio) Olympia, Washington, Sons Michael & wife Sara and Grandsons Jude and Camden (Bellingham, Washington) David & wife Heidi (Spokane, Washington) brother Scott Hanes (Mary) Houston, Texas, sister Lynne Hanes, Greenville, Ohio. Chris graduated from Arcanum High School in 1969, was Valedictorian of his class and a member of the 1969 Arcanum Trojans State Champions in basketball, track and field. He graduated from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana and pursued a career which began in Tool & Die and led to Mechanical Engineering and a job with Intel Corporation in Dupont, Washington, retiring after 20 years. Chris deeply loved his boys, Mike, Dave, Jude and Camden, and his Daughters-in-law Sara and Heidi. He loved baseball, teaching them to pitch in the backyard and being their coach and full-time supporter including lots of their friends. He was an avid Ohio State Football fan and would chain text during the games with Scott and Lynne. Chris loved to build especially in the move to Washington when we had our home built in 1998, and he was involved and followed with a small barn in the back yard to house all his tools for the best grass ever. He and Rachel took their Walks to Emmaus in Wilmington, Ohio in 1986 and were quite involved until their move to Washington as members of High Street United Methodist Church in Springfield. Calvary Chapel is their Church home in Olympia, Washington. Chris had a beautiful singing voice, was in the Church Choir and was given one of his dreams, to play Harold Hill in Music Man at the Springfield Summer Arts Festival in 1987, then was in the cast of Oliver with Michael in 1988. He also enjoyed listening to music and playing around on the piano at home. 4 years and 19 trips to Ohio Chris (with the help of his Brother, Sister, Cousin Eric Brown, Niles Brown and the great encourager Rod Brown) found the 1951 Farmall M his Dad bought when he was born, lots of rust but Chris made it look new. Chris loved returning to Ohio where he grew up, worked hard during his high school days, and remembered being with his Dad on the farm. He will be greatly missed as we hold him in our hearts but know he is healed and with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ-we will see him again. There will be a funeral service for Chris on July 17, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, 204 N. Main St. Arcanum, OH 45304 with Randy Brown officiating and an hour of calling from 10-11a.m.. Interment will follow the service at Ithaca Cemetery.
