The 6th annual YFC Summerfest and Toss for Teens Tournament is set for Friday, August 7th and will take place “just feet from the fountain,” right off the Greenville traffic circle in the parking lots that surround the YFC Ministry Center at 107 W. Main St. Summerfest has been a favorite of many over the past five years, offering plenty of family activities in the downtown Greenville area for some “end of the summer” fun.
Whether it’s the free carnival games and activities set up by multiple churches and organizations or the chance to “flush” a friend of your choice with 5 gallons of cold water splashing down on them from the “flush bucket” that brings folks out, it is sure to be a great time! Maybe the chance to just relax and catch up with friends while watching the cornhole tournament and enjoying a cold soda and homemade desserts is what appeals to others.
As in years past, kids will have fun getting to climb up in a firetruck or see the inside of a police car or ambulance and will also have a chance to interact with some exotic animals from the Bish Discovery Center. “Gizmo” the electric car, compliments of Leis Realty and Littman-Thomas Agency, will also be available for rides down Main Street Greenville for those who need a lift. And for those who have not yet visited YFC’s ministry center, guests are welcome to take a break from the outdoors, step into the air-conditioned ministry center, sit and rest a while or take a casual tour of the center.
YFC Summerfest will be joining in with Main Street Greenville’s First Friday Artisan Stroll. Collaborating with Main Street Greenville to offer these events has made it possible for many to be involved with plenty to do, including the enjoyment of art and music of local community members, watching a corn hole tournament, playing carnival games and enjoying delicious refreshments.
Summerfest will take place from 6-9 p.m. with the Toss for Teens Cornhole Tournament starting at 6:30. The purpose of Summerfest is for the community to enjoy a fun evening with friends and family while raising necessary funds that will allow YFC Ministry Leaders to continue to help local young people find direction as they navigate the challenges associated with life and faith. The sixth annual “Toss for Teens” Cornhole Tournament will be a highlight of the evening, taking place during the festival in the back parking lot, which also runs just off of Broadway between Third and Main Streets. This year’s goal is to include up to 24 teams in the event, and together with the festival sponsors, raise $20,000 to continue to reach young people.
Those who wish to enter a team can make a difference for teens AND win some great prizes for both fundraising and winning play. Prizes for top individual fundraisers include Dinner for two at the Boardwalk Grill in Celina with a Sunset Cruise for up to fourteen people on Lake St. Mary’s, Darke County Fair passes for your family (up to 4), a $100 Top Golf gift card, and 2 Illumination Festival tickets. The prizes for winning play are “Boss of the Toss” hats and trophy and a backyard game of your choice or restaurant gift card. Those interested can check out details and register at yfcmv.org/events, and click on the Toss for Teens “learn more” button, or for more information on YFC Summerfest, click on the YFC Summerfest “learn more” button.
There is no cost to attend YFC’s Summerfest beyond giving a donation for refreshments, and a chance to soak your friend at the “Flush Bucket.” This is made possible because of dozens of local businesses and individuals, and Summerfest’s Community Champion sponsor, Protos – The First Solution. Incidentally, additional sponsors are more than welcome and will receive advertising in return both before and during the event. The whole community is invited to attend and those interested in being involved in any greater way can contact Youth for Christ at office@yfcmv.org or 937-548-2477.
