
On August 1, 2026 at approximately 10:25 a.m. Darke County Deputies along with New Madison Fire, Tri-Village Rescue and Arcanum Rescue, responded to the intersection of U.S. Route 127 and State Route 503 for a reported crash with injuries with one vehicle striking a house.
Preliminary investigation revealed, a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Melissa Hymes 48, of New Madison was traveling southbound on U.S. 127 when she was struck broadside by a white GMC Yukon driven by Hannah Paulus 29, of West Milton, who was traveling northwest on State Route 503 and failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection. Both vehicles traveled off the right side of the roadway and the Yukon struck a house. The residents were not home at the time of the crash.
Hymes was transported to Reid Hospital and Paulus was transported to Wayne HealthCare for their injuries.
