Ann M. Subler, age 93, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville after an extended illness.
She was born in Frenchtown, Ohio on March 25, 1933, to the late Tilma & Josephine (Subler) Bey. On September 26, 1951, she married Joseph R. Subler. They were married for 43 years until his passing on January 29, 1995.
Ann is survived by her sons, David Subler, John (Susan) Subler and Jeff (Maureen) Subler as well as eight grandchildren, Lisa (Mike) Nemeth, Jessica (Dan) Bardes, Andy (Andrea) Subler, Katherine Subler, Allison Subler, Kelli Subler, Michelle (Omar) Elsheikh and Kris (Natalie) Subler. In addition, she is survived by nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Rita Stahl as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Other than her family, Ann’s life revolved around music. From an early age she found that she was talented and could play piano, organ and accordion as well as sing. As a young girl around the age of 10, she started to play masses at Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown, Ohio. In those days, she played each Sunday but also played for the funerals of many WWII service men who had been killed in action. Later, she also began to sing and play music and entertain at dances around a multi-county area, always under the watchful eye of her mother. Her parents encouraged her musical abilities just as she did her own boys when they played music of their own.
After getting married and starting a family, she was once again called upon to play the organ, this time at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles. There, she organized and led Senior and Junior choirs for decades, playing mass each weekend as well as daily morning masses for many years. She touched the lives of many families by playing hundreds of weddings and funerals during that time. In addition, she continued to play and sing at parties and dances through the years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday, August 24, 2026, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Ned Brown celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
