On October 15, 2021 at approximately 10:25 A.M. Darke County Deputies along with Arcanum Fire, Greenville Township Rescue, Tri-Village Rescue and CareFlight responded to the intersection of State Route 49 and Arcanum-Bears Mill Road for a reported two vehicle injury crash.
Preliminary investigation revealed a blue 2002 Toyota Camry driven by Ralph Garber 92, of Covington, OH. was traveling southbound on Arcanum-Bears Mill Road and stopped at the intersection of State Route 49. Mr. Garber then pulled out into the intersection and was struck by a black 2020 GMC Sierra pick-up truck driven by Ty Figel 43, of Arcanum, OH. who was traveling northwest on State Route 49. Figel’s vehicle then rolled twice before coming to rest in the side ditch. Garber was transported to Miami Valley Hospital aboard CareFlight where he succumbed to his injuries. Figel was uninjured in the crash.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
