Since
2009, nearly $70,000 in Tuition Scholarships and other financial aid
has
been awarded to deserving
Darke County young people working toward college degrees in a variety
of
fields. The awards have been through the Senior Scribes Scholarship
Fund, now the Darke County Scholarship Fund. Many of these students
have been
active in the Darke County Teen Advocates, Darke County Teen Scribes,
County News Online, Early Bird/Bluebag Media and a multitude of
community service endeavors. All
have been helped by CNO Business Sponsors,
SSSF Fundraisers,
County News Online Sponsors, and the "Friends" who have
followed their accomplishments over the years.

Ashley
Mikesell, Greenville High School
Ashley Mikesell is a 2015 Greenville High School graduate
attending Wright State University for a degree in biology. Once she
earns her degree she intends to enroll in Kettering Medical Center’s
physician’s assistant program. Ashley is the daughter of Eagles member
Rodney Mikesell.

Ashton Kester,
Greenville High School
Ashton Kester, 2016 Greenville High School graduate, received the
2016 Dave Knapp Ford Lincoln Scholarship. In 32 games played, Ashton
had a .457 batting average. Over 94 plate appearances, she had 43 hits
with 40 runs scored. She collected 12 doubles, three triples, two home
runs and three stolen bases. At shortstop, she also had a fielding
percentage of .868. In her senior year Ashton was named to first team,
All Greater Western Ohio Conference. Aston will be attending Findlay
University, pursuing a degree in veterinary science. Ashton also
received the 2016 Greenville Eagles 2177 scholarship. She is the
granddaughter of Eagles member R. Eldon Wolter.

Dane Wentworth,
Ansonia High School
Dane Wentworth, 2016 Ansonia High School graduate, received the
2016 Dave Knapp Ford Lincoln Scholarship. In 15 games played, Dane had
a .372 batting average with a .400 on base percentage. He had 16 hits
and scored 13 runs with a home run and three doubles. He had a .511
slugging percentage and in the outfield his fielding percentage was
.923. Dane will be attending Wilmington University, pursuing a degree
in education.

Olivia Herron,
Greenville High School
Olivia Herron is a 2016 graduate of Greenville High School. She
will be attending Miami University for Strategic Communications. She
received one of three 2016 DCSF scholarships. Olivia is the daughter of
Maurice and Lisa Herron.

Bryant Fox,
Ansonia High School
Bryant Fox is a 2016 graduate of Ansonia High School. He will be
attending the University of Findlay, pursuing an agriculture-related
degree. He received DCSF’s 2016 Bistro Off Broadway Scholarship.

Seryn Crawford,
Greenville High School
Seryn Crawford is a 2016 Greenville High School. She will be
attending Ball State University for Dietetics. She received one of two
2016 Al and Barbara Greiner scholarships from DCSF. Seryn is the
daughter of Merilee and Donald Beisner.

Hannah Coakley,
Greenville High School
Hannah Coakley is a 2016 graduate of Greenville High School. She
will be attending Indiana Wesleyan University for Communications and
Youth Ministries. She received DCSF’s 2016 Fred & Donna Wright
Memorial Scholarship, presented by Darryl and Debbie Biddlestone.
Hannah is the daughter of Stephanie and Scott Lind.

Brittany Ulman,
Ansonia High School
Brittany Ulman is a 2014 graduate of Ansonia High School. She is
attending Ball State University for Creative and Professional Writing.
Brittany has published several articles on County News
Online about her college experiences. Brittany received the Early Bird
/ Bluebag Media / County News Online scholarship in 2015, and the
County News Online scholarship in 2016. She is the
daughter of Anthony & Yvonne Ulman.

Brooke
Robinson, Versailles High School
Brooke Robinson is a 2013 Versailles High School graduate and
Valedictorian of her graduating class. She is pursuing degrees in
journalism and theatre at Ohio University. Brooke’s parents are
Ted and Joni
Robinson, Versailles. Brooke received the Fred & Donna Wright
Memorial scholarship in 2013, presented by Darrel and Debbie
Biddlestone, the Bistro Off Broadway scholarship in 2015 and the DCSF
scholarship in 2016.

Nicole Manges,
Greenville High School
Nicole Manges is a 2014 graduate of Greenville High School. She is
pursuing a degree in English Literature and Writing at Huntington
University, with a
goal of becoming an publications editor. She graduated high school with
a 4.49 GPA.
Nicole is the daughter of Brian and Diana Manges. She received the SSSF
Senior Scribes scholarship in 2014 and 2015, and the DCSF scholarship
in 2016..

Will McCabe,
Greenville High School
Will
McCabe, a 2014 graduate of Greenville High School, graduated
13th in a class of 244 with a GPA of 4.15. He is currently pursuing a
major in Creative Writing and a double-minor in Communication and
Psychology from Ohio Northern University, and will graduate the
Spring of 2017. While he has not yet pinned down a seminary, he will
pursue a
Master of Divinity immediately after graduating. He
received the Al and Barbara Greiner Scholarship in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Will
is the son of Mitch & Minetta McCabe.

Ally Russell,
Greenville High School
Ally Russell, a Greenville High School graduate, is a 2015
recipient of the Dave Knapp Ford Lincoln scholarship. She was named to
first team All State for three consecutive years by the Ohio High
School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association. She was also named first
team All-GWOC and All-GWOC North for three consecutive years, and GWOC
North softball player of the year for two consecutive seasons. She has
signed with Wright State University to play softball and will be
pursuing a degree in athletic training. “I would like to be a trainer
at the high school level… maybe move to college level some day,” Ally
said. “I’m excited… I applied to the program and got in. Not that many
freshmen are admitted.”

Aaron
Balsbaugh, Greenville High School
Aaron Balsbaugh, a Greenville High School graduate, is a 2015
recipient of the Dave Knapp Ford Lincoln scholarship. Aaron was named
this year’s GWOC North Athlete of the Year. In basketball he set single
game and single season rebounding records and was named to the GWOC
Basketball First Team. He also set a school record in Track and Field
with his 800-meter run and finished 12th in the state Boys 800-meter
run. He has signed with Taylor University to play basketball and run
track. He will be pursuing a general engineering degree. “I just want
to get out and get a good job,” Aaron said. He added he’ll likely focus
on electrical with mechanical engineering. “This gives me a broad range
to work with after college.”

Shelby Schepis,
Tri-Village High School
Shelby Schepis has twice been a business sponsor scholarship recipient
from
Greenville Eagles 2177. She is a graduate of Tri-Village High School
and attends the Reid School of Radiologic Technology. The program
allows students to get 34-40 hours a week of hands-on training in
addition to classwork. “Within the first month of setting foot in the
hospital, I knew this is where I belong,” she said. Shelby has planned
her career training carefully and anticipates that with scholarships
and her part-time work she will be able to graduate debt free in 2016.

Peyton
Kreitzer, Arcanum High School
Peyton Kreitzer is a 2015 graduate of Arcanum High School. She is
a talented singer who will be pursuing a business degree in music at
Lee University. She received her scholarshp sponsored by the Senior
Scribes Scholarship Fund. Peyton is the daughter of Chad & Denise
Kreitzer.

Caroline
Prakel, Versailles High School
Caroline Prakel is a 2015 graduate of Versailles High School. She
will be attending Ohio State University pursuing a degree in
pharmaceutical science. She received her scholarship sponsored by the
Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund in 2015. Caroline's parents are Mike
& Christy Prakel.

Tara Guillozet,
Greenville High School
Tara
Guillozet has twice been a business sponsor scholarship recipient from
Greenville Eagles 2177. In 2015 she received the Fred & Donna
Wright Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by Darrrel & Debbie
Biddlestone. Tara graduated from Greenville
High School in 2013. She
is attending the University of Cincinnati on a Fashion Design career
path. She is the daughter of Tonnya Guillozet and Eagles member Scott
Guillozet.

John Liette,
Ansonia High School
John Liette is a 2012 Ansonia High School graduate pursuing a
Communications Disorder degree at Ball State University. He received
the Lloyd/Marie Blickenstaff and Melvin/Hannah Rust Memorial
Scholarship presented by Delbert & Louise Blickenstaff. John’s
parents are Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Liette, Union City. John received
scholarships in 2012 and 2013, and the Delbert Blickenstaff Memorial
Scholarships in 2014 and 2015.

Jessica Barga,
Versailles High School
Jessica will be beginning her junior year at Miami University in
Communications this year. She received her SSSF scholarship in 2014.

Cassidy Condon,
Versailles High School
Cassidy is a 2014 graduate of Versailles High School ninth in her
class with a 3.955 GPA.She plans to pursue her college education in
Communications studies. She received The Biddlestone Memorial In Memory
of Ralph “Fred” and Donna Wright in 2014.

Eric Swartz,
Edison Community College
Erick Swartz received his scholarship while a freshman student at
Edison Community College. A Greenville resident, he has been active in
SSSF activities and was awarded the The Early Bird, Bluebag Media,
Bistro Off Broadway, County News Online and Paul Ackley Award for 2014.

Makayla Wilson,
Arcanum High School
Makayla Wilson, a 2013 Arcanum High School graduate started her
educational journey at
Edison Community College. She is currently enrolled in the Veterinary
Techncology Program at the University of Cincinnati. She is the
recipient of the Bistro Off
Broadway Scholarship for Academic Excellence. Her parents are Mr. &
Mrs. Chad Wilson, Greenville. She was awarded this scholarship in 2013
and 2014.

Kyle Bruner,
Greenville High School
Kyle Bruner, a 2014 Greenville High School graduate, will be
attending Wittenburg University. He said he intends to pursue either an
education or sports management degree. He will be playing football at
Wittenburg. Kyle received the SSSF Eagles 2177 scholarship for children
and grandchildren of members. His father was the late Kevin Bruner.

O'Donnell,
Arcanum High School
Abbey O'Donnell, a 2014 graduate of Arcanum High School, will be
attending Bluffton University and plans to double major in Intervention
Specialist and Early Childhood Education. She will be playing
basketball for Bluffton as well. She received the SSSF Dave Knapp
Athletic Scholarship for 2014.

Feitshans, Franklin Monroe High School
Travis Feitshans, a 2014 graduate of Franklin Monroe High School,
will be attending Ohio Northern University to play basketball and major
in computer engineering. He received the SSSF Dave Knapp Athletic
Scholarship for 2014.

Micaela Adkins,
Greenville High School
Micaela Adkins is a business sponsor scholarship recipient from
Greenville Eagles 2177. She graduated from Greenville High School.
Micaela is going into early childhood education at Sinclair Community
College. She is the daughter of Eagles members Anna and David Humphrey.

Savannah
Hauberg, Greenville High School
Savannah Hauberg is a business sponsor scholarship recipient from
Greenville Eagles 2177. She is a graduate of Greenville High School.
Savannah is attending Indiana University East, specializing in the
field of Gerontology. She is the granddaughter of Eagles member Allen
Hauberg.

Sydney Hunt,
Greenville High School
Sydney Hunt is a business sponsor scholarship recipient from
Greenville Eagles 2177. She is a graduate of Greenville High School.
Sydney attends Owens Community College and will be pursuing a medical
technology degree with an emphasis on diagnostic medical imaging
(sonography). She is the granddaughter of Eagles member Susan Matthew.

Teha Richards,
Tri-Village High School
Teha Richards, Tri-Village High School Class of 2013, received a
Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund Business Scholarship from Dave Knapp
Ford Lincoln for her academic excellence and accomplishments in
Tri-Village basketball. Richards was a 4-year starter and a member of
its 1,000 points scored club. She was on the Cross County Conference
First Team for two years, Second Team for one year and its Academic
Team all four years. She was on the District 9 All Media Team, Second
Team AP All Southwest District and Honorable Mention AP All Ohio. She
was an Athlete of the Week and a County News Online Athlete of the
Month.

Sam Bowers,
Greenville High School
Sam Bowers, Greenville High School Class of 2013, received a
Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund Business Scholarship from Dave Knapp
Ford Lincoln for his academic excellence and accomplishments in a
number of sports. Among a number of awards, Bowers was Second Team All
GWOC in soccer and received the Coaches’ Award during his junior year,
and First Team All GWOC, as well as All District First Team, his senior
year. He was a t one year varsity starter in basketball. In tennis he
was First Team All GWOC and Second Team All District. He won the
Coaches’ Award and holds the school record for most doubles wins. He
was an Athlete of the Week and a County News Online Athlete of the
Month.

Sam Armstrong,
Mississinawa Valley High School
Sam, a 2010 graduate, is an English Communications major at Cedarville
University and has been a regular contributor to County News Online’s
Teen Scribes pages. He received the Al and Barbara Greiner Scholarship
for Academic Excellence. Sam’s parents are Mr. & Mrs. Robert
Armstrong, Union City.He has received SSSF scholarships in 2010, 2011,
2012 and 2013.

Kent Holmes,
Greenville High School
Kent was third in his graduating class in 2011. In addition he was
President of the GHS Key Club and involved in a variety of other
student organizations and activities, including the high school’s drama
group. He and fellow senior Simon Hoying produced and directed a series
of videos and stage performances, many of which were presented to the
public. He is pursuing a Telecommunications/Free Lance Media degree at
Ball State University. Kent’s parents are Mr. & Mrs. Larry Holmes,
Greenville.
He has received scholarships in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Simon Hoying,
Greenville High School
Simon and Kent are working together at Ball State on their
Communications degrees. In addition to their work while at GHS, they
have a weekly radio show that they produce for the Ball State student
population. Simon’s parents are Mr. & Mrs. Donald Hoying,
Greenville. Simon received scholarships in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Studebaker, Franklin Monroe High School
Ashley Studebaker is a 2012 Franklin Monroe High School graduate
pursuing a Sports Writing Degree at Wright State University. Her
parents are Mr. & Mrs. Timothy Studebaker, Laura. Since graduation,
she has published a number of articles for both
sports and community news in County News Online. Ashley received
scholarships in 2012 and 2013.

Prakel, Versailles High School
Margaret Prakel was the 2012 recipient of the Debbie & Darrel
Biddlestone Fred Wright Memorial Scholarship. She is a Versailles High
School graduate pursuing a Communications degree at Notre Dame
University. Margaret’s parents are Mr. & Mrs. Mike Prakel,
Versailles. Margaret has received scholarships in 2012 and 2013.

Ansonia High School
Stephanie, a 2012 graduate, is a Business Sponsor Scholarship recipient
from the Greenville Eagles. She is attending Ball State University in
its Exercise Science and Applied Science Track programs. Stephanie is
the daughter of Vicki Mayo and great granddaughter of Dorothy Boyd,
both members of Eagles 2177.

Zachory, a 2012 graduate, grandson of Garry Weaver, Sr., is a Business
Sponsor Scholarship recipient from the Greenville Eagles. He is
attending Ohio State University for a degree in Engineering.

Jeffery, a 2012 graduate, grandson of Richard Christman, is a Business
Sponsor Scholarship recipient from the Greenville Eagles. He is
attending Marian University in Indiana for degrees in Choral Music
Education and Pastoral Music Ministry.

Johnston, Greenville High School
Harrison, a 2012 graduate, grandson of Carolyn J. Warvel, is a Business
Sponsor Scholarship recipient from the Greenville Eagles. He is
attending Indiana University for a degree in Psychology.

Jenna Dowler,
Greenville High School
Jenna, a 2012 graduate, is among two individuals to recieve the first
annual Dave Knapp Business Scholarship for Academic & Athletic
Excellence. The presentation was part of the Senior Scribes Scholarship
Fund’s Business Scholarship Program. Dowler was recognized for her
individual efforts in the classroom and in the field of athletics. She
excelled in Greenville High School’s girls basketball and cheerleading.

Evan Barger,
Tri-Village High School
Evan Barger, a 2012 graduate, is among two individuals to recieve the
first annual Dave Knapp Business Scholarship for Academic &
Athletic Excellence. The presentation was part of the Senior Scribes
Scholarship Fund’s Business Scholarship Program. Barger was recognized
for his individual efforts in the classroom and in the field of
athletics. He excelled in Tri-Village High School’s boys basketball and
golf.

Jordan
Pridemore, Franklin Monroe High School
Jordan was Teen Advocate Editor from 2005 to 2008. Jordan’s weekly
columns attracted a huge audience of Advocate readers as she prepared
for a career in journalism with a degree from Ball State University.
During her college career she interned at the Dayton Daily News. Since
that time Jordan’s plans have evolved into a more personal level of
service as she will be graduating in 2012 with a double degree: English
and English as a Second Language. She received Scholarship money from a
grateful community in 2008, and SSSF Scholarships in
2009 and 2010.

Elizabeth
Horner, Greenville High School
Elizabeth is a talented young writer whose dream is to be a
novelist. Although she mentioned recently that she was first
"published" with a poem when she was six, she actually began her
publishing career at the age of nine with a front page Greenvlle
Advocate story about Memorial Day. She was the Advocate's FunDay Bunch
editor, a Teen Advocate, founder of a Read to Succeed program, a Coach
for the Greenville 7th and 8th grade Power of the Pen teams and writes
on a regular basis for County News Online's Teen Scribes pages.
Elizabeth received a full scholarship at American University, New York,
in Creative Writing and will spendi her first year of college in
England. She received a special award from County News Online for her
writing and service to the Greenville Community. She also received a
Business Sponsor Scholarship from Bistro Off Broadway.

Jessica
Transue, Greenville High School
Jessica is a talented young photographer who covered a variety of
events for County News Online in 2011. She also created the rotating
banners that readers see at the top of CNO Topic pages. In her senior
year at GHS, she built and maintained Digital Waves, IMTV’s sub-domain
on County News Online. The site was updated daily with news and events
at Greenville High School. She plans to attend Edison Community College
while preparing for a Communications degree at an as yet undecided
four-year institution. Jessica received Debbie & Darrel
Biddlestone's Fred Wright Memorial
Scholarship in 2012.

Kayla Lemar,
Home School
Kayla led the Teen Advocates after Jordan left for Ball State. Her
dream was to be a novelist. She attended Edison Community College and
Bowling Green before deciding that writing would be an avocation as she
answered a call to serve through her faith. Kayla was a scholarship
recipient in 2011.

Tiffany Beumer,
Greenville High School
Tiffany was a Teen Advocate during her junior and senior years and
attended Edison Community College in preparation for Communications
degree. She received a scholarship in 2011.

Greenville High School
Sean is a 2010 scholarship recipient planning to pursue a career in
Communications.

Gilbert, Mississinawa Valley High School
Dorothy received a scholarship in 2011 to attend a journalism workshop
at Ball State University.
