Phase 2 rollout of the Ohio Dept. of Medicaid’s Next Generation MyCare, providing coordinated care for Ohioans who are eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare, is underway expanding the program to more counties throughout the state. Next Generation MyCare aims to provide more coordinated care, increase efficiency, and save taxpayer dollars.
The state contracts with Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Buckeye Health Plan, CareSource, and Molina Healthcare of Ohio to coordinate services for people aged 60 and older who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid. Within the PSA 2 region, this program started with residents of Clark, Greene, and Montgomery counties on January 1, and expands to residents of Champaign, Darke, Logan, Miami, Preble, and Shelby counties starting May 1.
Eligible Ohioans receive a letter from the Ohio Department of Medicaid explaining how to enroll in the program and choose a health plan. To allow for a smooth transition, the Next Generation MyCare program rolls out in two phases: The January 1 start was for the 29 counties where MyCare Ohio was already active and available; and statewide expansion opens to counties new to MyCare. This phased timeline allows ODM to work with providers and advocates to minimize disruptions.
