Foundation continues support for Empowering programs
GREENVILLE – Vectren Foundation recently supported Empowering programs
with its second grant. The Foundation’s support began in 2019 and now
continues in 2020.
“This is a major grant,” said Empowering Executive Director Bob
Robinson. “It comes at a time when it’s really needed. Available funds
from all sectors of our economy are in short supply due to recent
events.
“Like many funding organizations, Vectren Foundation shifted much of
its resources to support the pandemic efforts. But they didn’t forget
our kids. Our Board, staff and I, and especially our kids, really
appreciate it. We hope a Vectren associate will be visiting one of our
After School Programs once school resumes in the fall.”
Empowering Darke County Youth continues to offer virtual tutoring
(empoweringdistance101@gmail.com) and is gearing up for the resumption
of services on local campuses within permitted guidelines.
“This has been a tough year for teachers and parents, and especially
the students,” Robinson added. “Many students struggling before classes
were cancelled fell further behind; even some students who were doing
well struggled when they lost the structured academic environment of
their local school districts.”
Student requests for help have grown every year since Empowering
programs began. Robinson said he anticipates this year will be no
different. As of December 2019 more than 17,000 hours of academic
support has been provided to 736 students from every school district in
Darke County.
“Our programs work,” Robinson said, “but we need help to continue
them.” Financial support can be sent to Empowering Darke County Youth,
P.O. Box 1113, Greenville, Ohio 45331. Want more information or success
