Darke County Center for the Arts
DCCA announces Arts in Education performances

Darke County Center for the Arts will present diverse artists performing for students in all grades of every public school during the upcoming months; however, rather than the usual practice of artists traveling from school to school or performing at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall, the performances will be virtual. “We are thrilled to be able to provide these outstanding performers in spite of the health and safety restrictions required in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said DCCA Executive Director Andrea Jordan. “DCCA’s commitment to serving our community is best exemplified by our A.I.E. program that enriches the lives of youngsters and often reverberates throughout their lives, all at no cost to the students,” Ms. Jordan continued.

According to DCCA Artistic Director David Warner, all of the performing artists were included in DCCA’s original A.I.E. schedule, which was upended by the schools’ necessary response to the Corona virus. “The artists were eager to work with us so that they could somehow still present their shows to students, continuing to share their inherent talents and skills with appreciative audiences, even if those audiences are not in the same room as the performer,” Mr. Warner stated. The performances will be available for educators to access and view at a time most convenient to fit their classroom schedules.

The program begins during the week of October 19, with classically-trained duo Moxie Strings performing for high school students; cellist Alison Lynn and violinist Diana Ladio’s ear-catching melodies and foot-stomping rhythms played on electric instruments will illustrate the many opportunities music offers. Versatile Grammy-award winning vocalist Shaun Johnson will bring his “Big Band Experience” to junior high students November 2 through 13, his wide-ranging stylings from an eclectic playlist also demonstrating the awesome power of good music.

November 9 through 13, one-man variety show Robert Post will delight and entertain fourth through sixth graders with his unique brand of humor and wisdom, and zany singer/songwriter Zak Morgan will evoke a similar response from kindergarten through third grade students from December 7 through 11, his songs, poems, and antics expanding imaginations while encouraging reading, writing, and deep thought.

DCCA’s Arts In Education series is sponsored by Matt and Angie Arnold, Bach to Rock, Darke County Foundation, Mandy Green Fund of Darke County Foundation, Edison State Community College, Wes and Patti Jetter, Jordan Agency, and Jean Louise Thieme Fund of Darke County Foundation; The Ohio Arts Council helps fund these programs with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. Darke County schools and DCCA membership contributions also help support the A.I.E. Program. DCCA also receives funding from the Ketrow Foundation, Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund, Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial, Inc., Coppock-Hole Trust, the John R. and Miriam H. Knick Fund of Darke County Foundation, and Greenville Rotary.
