Puzzle Pete’s Advice for Halloween

Pete hopes you’ll heed his suggestion. In this word chain puzzle, the
last letter of each 4-letter answer is the first letter of the next
answer. Work up and down. The puzzle is started for you. Solved
correctly, reading down, the first letters of the answers spell out
Pete’s advice.
