County News Online to have new look
“Serving
our Community… Supporting our Youth”
Beginning the weekend of March 13, County News Online will be moving to
a new format. The look will be totally different; the information you
look for and enjoy will stay the same.
CNO has been informing the Darke County public – and supporting its
young people – since 2011. During its 10 years of service, County News
Online supporters and sponsors have helped provide nearly $70,000 in
scholarships to deserving Darke County students, and for the past
several years have delivered thousands of dollars to Empowering Darke
County Youth’s tutoring programs.
CNO goals remain the same. Unfortunately, technology does not. Software
we have used for the past decade no longer works with our latest
computer updates. We had to find a new format. While there are multiple
options available, the one that worked best – and is free, thus leaving
our funds available for our kids – has a limited number of templates.
We chose the one that fits best… and you will see it this weekend.
The biggest advantage, according to our Webmaster Kurt Wagner, who
built the site for us, is that we will be completely compatible with
smart phones and similar devices. Usage of these devices has increased
exponentially over the last few years.
While a new “history” of articles will be starting with the new format,
the old history will still be available with a link at the top of the
site.
Four primary categories will continue. They are Empowering, Education,
News, and Obituaries. While News and Obituaries are important,
Education and Empowering focus on our youth, the future leaders of our
community, state and nation.
Education will carry Education news, opinion and analysis from around
the state and the U.S. News will focus on local news, events, opinion
and other information of potential interest to Darke County residents.
Obituaries from Tribute Funeral Homes and Zechar Bailey Funeral Home
will continue to be posted, typically within 24 hours of receipt. CNO
remains home to all Empowering Darke County Youth news and events.
Want to find out more about Empowering Darke County Youth? EDCY now has
its own informational website, which summarizes briefly its programs
and how you can become involved. Check it out at http://www.empowerdarkecounty.com/
CNO is an EDCY fundraiser. It averages 800 to 900 visits daily, with an
average 24,000 unique visits each month. News and information is
published six days a week, and results in an average 300,000 monthly
page views. Don’t forget our sponsors! When you see them let them know
you appreciate their support of our kids.
Thank you, everyone, for your continuing support.
