Cheryl L. Leugers
Cheryl L. Leugers, 66, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday,
June 3, 2020, at the State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.
She was born on August 10, 1953, in Union City, Indiana, to the late
Russell and Edna “Roberta” (Sorbray) Smith.
In addition to her parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her
father-in-law, Charles Leugers; and her brother-in-law, Neil Nickol.
Cheryl was a 1971 graduate of Mississinawa Valley High School. After
high school, she spent several years as a teacher’s aide before
starting her own family. Her passion for helping others did not stop
then. She became active in her children’s school and was even a room
mother. Her dedication to helping grow youth into fine adults continued
as she became a 4-H advisor. She spent 37 years as a Darke County 4-H
advisor and many of the years as the head advisor for the Genesis 4-H
Club. She was active with the Darke County 4-H Committee, serving as a
past president. She helped with the county fair and the county 4-H
project judging day each year.
She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She was known
for her mini bunt cakes that she would make each year to be sold at the
St. Mary’s School Auction. She loved to craft and enjoyed sewing and
doing plastic canvases.
Cheryl was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Greenville. She attended the church craft group and was active with the
Rosary Alter Society and the annual Holiday Bazaar. She enjoyed helping
with the BBQ Chicken Dinners and the Fish Fries with the Greenville
Knights of Columbus. She liked to help and volunteer at St. Mary’s
Catholic School.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, James “Jim” Leugers, whom she
married on November 10, 1973; her daughters, Tammy Leugers and Michelle
Enicks, both of Greenville; her grandson, James Enicks; her siblings,
Max (Jane) Smith of Winchester, Indiana, and Peggy Nickol of Tucson
Arizona; her mother-in-law, Mary Leugers of Greenville; her
sisters-in-law, Carol (Duane) Kemp of Piqua, Ohio, and Arlene (Tony)
Harris of Greenville; her brothers-in-law, Gary (Joyce) Leugers of
Bellefontaine, Ohio, and Richard (Jeanette) Leugers of Hollansburg,
Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at
10:30 AM with Father John R. White as celebrant. A live stream of the
mass will be available at www.facebook.com/stmarysgreenville. Burial
will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greenville.
Guests may visit with Cheryl’s family on Monday, June 8, 2020, at
Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and
again on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Prayers will be said at
3:45 PM on Monday.
Memorial contributions may be given, in memory of Cheryl, to the Darke
County 4-H Committee or St. Mary’s Catholic School.
